I am a former U.S. Marine veteran with over five years of logistics/ warehouse experience. I oversee an area known as the “slap yard” where metal slaps arrive (weighing 10-40 tons) in the department via rail, trolley cars, crane or forklift. On any given day, up to a hundred metal slaps move throughout the yard as some pieces go to get torch cut, grinded, sonic tested or inspected for quality. I also oversee two crane-men who are the movers of the yard. I inventory, distribute and ship out materials for further processing. There are various types of high tech alloys we handle such as such titanium and nickel, stainless steels, grain-oriented electrical steels. These slaps come in hot and cold.
